Mission
To assist small-to-medium sized manufacturing industries in Alabama with energy conservation, waste reduction, and productivity increases.
Prospective clients must meet three of the following criteria:
- Energy bills are more than $100,000 but less than about $2.5 million.
- Less than 500 employees at plant site.
- Gross annual sales from facility location are less than about $100 million.
- Does not employ an in-house energy professional which could perform this energy assessment.
Methods
Student/faculty teams make assessment visits to selected manufacturers in Alabama and provide each with a detailed report of recommendations. Students are deeply involved in plant assessments and energy/productivity issues.
About the IAC Program
The Industrial Assessment Centers are sponsored by the Department of Energy's Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy division. There are 26 of these centers nationwide and these are administered through the Field Manager's Office at Rutgers University. The Field Manager's Office maintains an extensive database of these IAC activities.
